Match Report - NTU VS NUS Men's 3rd/4th Placing

The battle of the two universities! Ntu and Nus facing up to see who is the better team. Will history repeat again with Ntu winning the game just like in the previous IVP against Nus with Md Hafeez scoring 6 of the goals out of 7 goals that Ntu scored.

First Period
The game started off with high intensity from both side. Both sides trying their very best to break their opponent's defence and take shots against the goalies. Nus seems to be playing well with better passes as compared to Ntu. 5mins into the game finally the first goal came. It was scored by Ntu's #7, a nice quick low drag shot. Unlucky for Nus as they were having the ball possession most of the time. Nus kept pressurising and tried to equalise but their shots were either blocked by Ntu's defender or saved by the goalie. The first period ended with the scoreline being 1-0 to NTU!

Second Period
In the second period, Nus was dominating the game. Their tight defence proof too hard for Ntu to break in and trying to get their second goal. Few minutes into the game Nus finally managed to get an equaliser. It was a well taken low drag shot by one of Singapore's National Player #2 Samuel Nee. The intensity once again become high on court. In less den 2minutes, Nus scored their second goal. Once again by #2 Samuel Nee. The same goal as the previous one that he scored earlier on. Ntu's defence starts to be shaky and Nus is seizing the chance to try to get more goals in but Ntu's goalie #32 Jacky made many tremendous saves. Second period with the scoreline being 1-2 to NUS!

Third Period
In the third period few minutes into the game, Ntu's #7 scored an equaliser! It was all messy in front of Nus's goal area with Nus's defenders trying to clear away the ball and Ntu's players trying to get hold of the ball. Ntu's #7 seize the chance and did a quick low drag shot when the ball landed on his blade. Nus goalie couldn't see the ball and anticipate it due to the mess in front of him. This is the price Nus has to pay for not clearing the ball immediately. Nus then start stepping up after Ntu's equalising goal. Few minutes later Nus #21 Melvyn Tan scored a nice drag shot somewhere near the halfway line with no one stepping up on him. Nus is back leading the game. The score is now 3-2 to NUS! Referee made a good call when he gave Nus's player, Donald, a 2 minutes offence for delaying of play. Ntu tried taking many shots during the 2 minutes powerplay but their chances went down the drain as their shots were either blocked or saved. Finally after fighting out hard trying to break Nus defense, Md Hafeez, managed to score a one on one with Nus goalie! It was a nice through pass from the defence. The scoreline is now 3-3. This is so far the most exciting period as compared to the first two periods. 2minutes later, Glass, from Nus scored another goal for Nus through a free hit! Not long later, Nus scored another goal through #7 Benjamin Ang. Ntu managed to score another goal not long later but it was not good enough. They were still 1 goal down. The last 2 minutes to the end of the game, Ntu's key player, Md Hafeez tried all means n ways to assist his team mates or take a shot but Nus defence was too tight to break. The game ended with the scoreline being 4-5 to NUS!

Match Report - SIM VS NUS Ladies

We’ve come to the second game of the day, this time round having SIM which topped Table A. It’s another game which determined who would make it for the finals, NUS or SIM? The defending champions, SIM had all their key players this time round, ready to fight against Team NUS who were physically fit.
1st Period
And again, the 1st period started off with a slow pace. It was obvious that both teams were not used to the Ger-Flor. SIM had more ball possession and at the 4th minute, a wrong pass made from SIM #2 to NUS nearly saw a goal for NUS, but the NUS player missed the goal. A free hit was given to SIM, #12 Duck passed to #20 Priscilla where she took a wrist shot but was saved by NUS #15 Widya. NUS #10 made a very nice break-in, took a drag shot against SIM but it flew out.

2nd Period
Not wanting to waste any more time, SIM won the face-off. SIM’s #12 Duck took a wrist shot against NUS’s veteran goalie Widya, but was saved once again. SIM’s favourite #19, Angela showed off her dribbling skills and made beautiful yet simple passes to her teammate #2 Louie which missed the shot quite a few times. NUS was working very hard to get their goals coming, however all were to no avail as shots were not put on target. SIM was still able to hold their play and kept more ball possession most of the time. The NUS girls were very hardworking, they made sure they man-marked SIM very tightly were able to hold them back until the period ended still with a score of 0-0.

3rd Period
It was either a make it or break it for both teams, there wasn’t any much time left to waste. It was almost half of the third period when SIM finally scored their first goal! #4 Stella took a quick wrist shot against NUS’s #15 Widya.This calls for a celebration for SIM! Almost close to the end of the period, SIM’s #4 Stella was given 2 minutes for slashing. NUS tried to make use of this 2 minutes to get their goal but to no avail again. After the final whistle was blown, SIM jumped in joy! The game ended with a final score of 1-0 to SIM. Will it be another year for SIM to defend their championship title? We’ll see when they meet RP this Friday!

Match Report - RP VS TP Ladies

After drawing with NTU and edging them out by 1 more goal difference, RP faces TP who topped Group B’s table after winning all 4 games.
1st period
The first period started off very slowly, with both teams trying to get used to the flooring. RP has the advantage over TP because they train on Gerflor in RP. At the 19th minute, RP’s #4 Joelle scored a goal assisted by her teammate #19, Mable. RP’s very own goalie made a great save by a TP player who broke in from the center and took a shot against her!

2nd Period
The 2nd period saw RP leading by a goal which worried TP. The intensity of the game did not change, somehow the tempo was still very slow. Many of them were falling down and missing their passes and shots, it must be due to the flooring maybe. RP’s captain cum key player #6 Ou Mei Wen had to sit out after having a bad fall at the boards. RP’s coach Jamie was worried because they had the smallest squad in the whole IVP, they had no choice but to ensure that the whole team had to cover up for one another. Still, no goal from TP during the 2nd period.

3rd Period
This was TP’s last chance to either make it or break it. At the 33th minute, TP’s #34 took a wrist shot but it went off target. Due to some poor defense by TP, RP had a counter attack back where RP’s #21 PeiPei took a wrist shot against TP but it went off target. TP still had their fighting spirit in them and never gave up. TP’s #5 Wanie broke in and took a drag shot against RP but was saved. A free hit was given to TP at the 39th minute where #5 Wanie took a wrist shot but luck wasn’t on their side, it hit the post and went out. RP has lesser possession of the ball this time round, a mistake led by RP saw TP’s #47 Hazirah breaking in through the centre with her dribbles where she took a wrist shot and TP finally earned their first goal! It was now 1-1 to both teams until the final whistle.

Golden Goal
Both teams had to play for an extra 5 minutes whereby whichever team that scores first wins. During the 2nd minute here, TP’s #47 Hazirah was given 2 minutes for jumping. It was powerplay to RP and boxplay to TP now. TP was defending their hearts out in order to not concede any goal, sadly for RP, they did not make use of their powerplay to score. At the 4th minute, RP’s #8 Reena Wong did a drag shot from the centre but was saved by the TP Keeper, Madura. That 2 minutes left was very crucial for both teams, RP which dominated that play saw RP’s #8 Reena Wong scoring the winning goal for RP which was nicely assisted by her teammate Jacelyn Tay #11 ! Everyone was committing to Rp’s #11 Jacelyn and did not take note of #8 Reena at the blind side, a pass from Jacelyn to Reena saw RP scoring their golden goal! The final score was 2-1 to RP. Good job girls!
