IVP 08/09
RP VS NTU (Men’s)
Period 1
RP dominated the game right after the first face off with precise passes, keeping the NTU players on their toes at all times. Only after tens of shots were fired that RP could finally put one through the net. NTU played with great discipline, closing down and covered the ever-coming shots from RP. NTU #19 was given a 2-minute bench penalty for incorrect pushing. The challenge for NTU to defend was definitely raised higher. A quick interception gave NTU #31 a chance to counter but was saved by RP’s keeper #25. RP held a very well-controlled game holding NTU in their defensive half. Another 2 minutes was later given to NTU #7 for lying play. RP held the ball patiently, moving the defence of NTU before striking at goal.

Period 2
2 brothers facing each other off broke some laughter among the spectators. A 2-minute penalty for incorrect hit was given to NTU #8. With a one-man advantage, RP Captain #9 took the ball up from defence and placed it nicely into the goal while NTU’s keeper #32 was down. During a hustle at NTU’s defensive corner, an ambiguous call for incorrect push was given to NTU #8. The challenge for both teams came when RP #4 was also sent to the sin bin shortly after, for incorrect hit in an attempt to stop NTU #66 from a counter attack. In the last minute of the second period, NTU played a different tactic, pressuring full court against RP.

Period 3
Within 2 minutes into the new period, RP #24 and #8 pulled the score up to 4-0. RP yet again extended the lead to 5-0 with an unexpected shot which was passed right into the far left corner of the NTU’s goal. As the game progressed, NTU #19 was sent off for a 2-minute penalty which was then changed to 5-minutepenalty for his misconduct towards the referees. Despite the one player advantage, RP was denied harshly by NTU’s disciplined defence.
It was certainly a match to watch! Although RP has been a dominant team, NTU certainly gave a hard time for RP to live up to expectations.
